Happy Day!!

Oh yeah, It’s National American Beer Day!

🍻

Did you know ……

National American Beer Day is observed annually by beer drinkers across the nation on October 27.

There is some history behind why American beer should be celebrated in the first place. Back in the 1920s, drinking beer was against the law and could have landed you in jail. After the ratification of the 18th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution during the early 20th century, legal alcohol was almost non-existent. The period known as Prohibition banned the sale, transportation and manufacturing of intoxicating alcohol. While the Amendment initially saw success, such as a 30 percent drop in alcohol consumption and a decline in drunken arrests, people also found other ways to consume alcohol.

Alcohol was illegally manufactured, an act known as “bootlegging,” it was also made in private homes and then smuggled across state lines and businesses like clubs and stores known as a “speakeasy” sold alcohol as well. By 1933, Congress created a solution by presenting the 21st Amendment which annulled the 18th Amendment and ended the prohibition era.

The U.S. Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau reports there were 4,824 reporting breweries in the United States in 2015 – up more than 600 from 2014. In 1983, the Brewers Almanac reported there were 49 permitted breweries. There are now more than 6,000 permitted breweries as of 2015. They range in size from industry giants to brew pubs and micro-breweries.

The majority of the new breweries in the U.S. are small breweries and brew-pubs, who, as members of the Brewers Association, are termed “craft breweries” to differentiate them from the larger and older breweries.

Americans are clearly a fan of these various brews, as more than 50 billion pints are consumed annually.

🍻

To celebrate this boozy day, meet up with friends tonight after work or maybe head home to crack open a cold one or two of your favorite American beer. (Oh yeah, burgers on the grill ‘to boot’)

Cheers to National American Beer Day, and drink responsibly.

So from Riley, Trigger and me ….. sending you love and blessings, woof woof!
