Friday Inspiration

It’s Friday Inspiration y’all.

So, I can’t remember a time when I did not like to decorate my home. And just like the ad says, a home is more than just four walls, it’s what’s inside.

Walking into my home always puts a smile on my face. Well of course when I see that beautiful face of Riley’s poking up from the couch …… yep, that does it too!

Decorating …… Some call it an obsession …… I call it Love.

I call Texas home and have for a very long time but I have lived on the east and west coast and was raised in the middle and decorating my home no matter where I live is all about Love.

Home for me is my sanctuary. Oh some of you may be thinking …… boy is she materialistic. Well, think a little deeper y’all.

Decorating is not about being rich, having the biggest home in the neighborhood, keeping up with others, it’s about the Love you have for you and your family. It’s about making your home your ‘happy’ place.

If you walk in the door and the first thought is ugh …… then …… change it.

Sometimes it’s as simple as organizing …… wait, did you hear me …… yep you sure did.

If you are stepping over shoes, clothes, toys etc., just to get in to the house, then move them, permanently. Find a new place for them and share the rules with your family.

Not to burst your bubbles …… it helps that I love to be organized too!

But seriously, Don’t compare your house to someone else’s. They don’t live there, you do.

If you are tired at looking at something …… (no I don’t mean your significant other, teehee) maybe it’s time to part with it. Or maybe it just needs a little refresh. So your sofa is perfectly fine, buy a couple of new throw pillows, ‘Voila’ …… now you look over at the sofa and it brings a smile to your face.

The Love I show my home is a reflection of the gratitude I show God for what I have.

And if you are thinking …… well I have a few more things that needs help around my home than a couple of pillows, now then, listen up.

It’s your home! No matter the type, size or location. You should put in it and take out any decor that is not something you Love.

Hey, most of us were not born with that ‘ decorator’ gene, so don’t force it. If you are looking at Pinterest and other blog sites and get depressed or feel anxiety, stop, Stat! Oh, I look at them too. But they don’t depress me. I get ideas and inspiration but I remember, most are staged.

Decorating does not mean; go out there and buy anything and everything. In the past I have been a victim of buying something because it was on sale and I thought I was getting a smokin hot deal …… lesson learned.

See what getting older and gaining experience teaches!

I still have times when something speaks to me in the store but when I get it home, it’s like radio silence. So I might give it a couple of days …… and then it goes back. I have learned to keep tags on items but I will not keep it thinking it will grow on me. Yep, this goes back to my organization skills, I have learned to get rid of things. It takes practice but once you start, you won’t go back.

I would much rather make another trip to return an item then let it sit around taking up space. Plus, just think, someone else might be looking for that exact piece to bring Love into their home!

Hey, we all have worked hard in order to get our homes, well most of us, so fill yours with the things that you and your family Love.

It’s really not a daunting experience at all. If you feel like you just don’t know where to start, start with the seasons. As our season change, change something in your home. Fall is just around the corner. Adding a decorative pumpkin, some fall flowers or maybe a simple fall candle will be just the spark you need. Candle, spark …… teehee!

And if you need a little more inspiration, you can start by cleaning out an area such as a closet, the entry way or the bathroom. Take all the decor and stuff out. Only put back the  necessities. Is there room for a piece of decor? Don’t rush or force it.  This is your home, make it YOU! Be Happy!

I wish for you to have a home full of Love and Happiness.

As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)

My focus is to maintain a home that is both functional and promotes love and peace. I don’t believe God is checking off the list how many times I vacuum, dust or even the color of my pillows and decor in my home. He cares about the happiness and well-being of those who live in it.

And my people will dwell in a peaceable habitation and in sure dwellings and in quiet resting places. (Isaiah 32:18)

I am for-ever thankful that I have a place to call home, while many do not.

Riley and I send you love and blessings, always always.

Namasté

Co-pilot,
Riley the Scottie
