Peace Rose

Hi y’all!

Growing up I remember that my mother always had roses in her garden. And I remember the fragrance all around as you walked by them. Of course roses are still one of my favorite flowers …….

Did you know ……

That each rose has a history ……

And the Peace Rose, as the name signifies, represents world peace at the end of World War II. It was developed by Francis Meiland, a French horticulturist between 1935 – 1939. He foresaw the German invasion of France and so to protect the rose, he decided to send cuttings to his friends in Italy, Germany, Turkey and the U.S. It actually made it on the last plane to the United States before the German invasion.

It’s name was officially announced on April 29, 1945 by a company called Conrad Pyle Co. It was also the day that Berlin fell to the Allied Forces and it was the official end to the war. And later the same year, it was presented to the first delegation of the United Nations in San Francisco along with a note,

‘ We hope the ‘Peace’ Rose will influence men’s thoughts for everlasting world peace.’

 Did you know ……

That each rose color has a meaning …… Here are a few of my favorites,
