Hello y’all!
If you have been reading my posts then you know that Riley and I have his little best friend, Trigger staying with us for a few days. They are both filling my days with tons and tons of sunshine that keeps my soul warm and wanting more. Well…..it has been an adventure and I have a lot of stories to share with you…..
So okay, you already know that I take Riley out for walks most evenings and many times early morning….(of course weather permitting, time permitting…….and Riley permitting) yes sometimes he just wants to sit outside and soak up the sun…..that is always fun too!
So….. the other night I put my walking shoes on, grab a light jacket, keys and also a couple of poop bags……..hey…..just keeping it real……..(sorry I digress)…..no really….. if you take your dog for a walk……..you never leave without all the essentials…….
So any who, on this night I actually decided to go out a little earlier than normal. The evenings are getting slighter cooler and the two boys were getting excited. Now it all started off rather nicely……..
Of course we stop for the occasional sniffing of trees, shrubs….you get the picture….nothing out of the ordinary. This wasn’t the first night the 3 of us have gone for a walk…..just a little earlier tonight.
We passed several walkers, joggers and couple of people on bicycles too. The boys were perfect little gentlemen…..sometimes looking at the people we passed, sometimes stopping as if they wanted a pat on the head or maybe a cookie (these 2 really love their cookies) and sometimes an all out Woof Woof Woof…… I still have not been able to figure out why some people we pass, Riley will barely notice them, while others he turns into a little beast….yes a little beast with a deep growl and ready to pounce….
So we are enjoying the walk and I did notice that as people approach us and they are walking much bigger dogs, they would go around as to not startle or agitate our dogs……(you know, most dog owners show kindness to other dog owners) pretty cool stuff……huh……..well, we usually wave to each other, or greet each other with a hello, how are you or some other kind words. People are so kind!
I keep telling the boys they are doing really good and they are. They seem to walk side by side in rhythm and I can sometimes hear their little paws against the sidewalk. I catch them often looking over at each other as if they are saying………wow……..this is fun……it’s a cool night….friendly people, feeling good, looking good…..woof woof!
So as we turn the corner I can see up in front of us a couple who are walking two small dogs. As we start to get closer, I am thinking that I will move Riley and Trigger off to the other side of the street, mainly to keep our momentum going (we have a nice medium to fast walk going on) and also ……..so our dogs do not startle or even try to cut loose from us.
Well within seconds of me making my move, both Riley and Trigger see the other dogs approaching and now they are making a break for it……omg……they start barking…..the two dogs getting closer are now barking and trying to take flight and before I knew it….yeah you guessed it…..I am down. Now I did use my hands or one of them at least so only one knee hit the concrete…..well it actually skidded across then concrete…..Ouch….
No really…. it, really did hurt….
Now I am not a big baby usually…..but your knees or at least mine are pretty tender so naturally the skin peeled off fairly easily…….Ouch.
Of course the dogs are barking…….the girl is now holding one of her dogs in her arms while the other is still on the ground, the guy runs over to me to see if I am all right and yes you guessed it again…….Riley and Trigger are barking and growling so there is no way this guy is getting too close. I wouldn’t either.
So now he is shouting (over 4 dogs barking) at me to see if I am okay…….I shout back as I try to untangle myself from the dog leashes (okay so I may not be the most agile girl around) but I don’t understand how those leashes got strung around me that quickly. (And not just wrapped around me one or twice, they are literally wrapped around me like a mummy)…… So, I tell him I am okay.
Of course my pride, ego, dignity, whatever you want to call it, is now dejected…….
I get up, tell them both again that I am okay……they keep saying they are sorry over and over and over……….as if they had pushed me or were at fault for my clumsiness. So I dust myself off and we continue our walk.
Riley and Trigger start to calm down and are looking up at me. I really could not tell if they were thinking……..don’t worry girl, we got your back or if they were thinking……jeez, we can’t take her any where…….
In any case…..we were about 3/4 of the way home so I tried to enjoy the rest of the walk. Yes, I now had a slight limp and yes it hurt……. but all I could do was laugh and laugh and laugh as I replayed the whole scene again and again in my mind. I told myself that I was very proud that I never let go of the 2 leashes the whole time…..(I think I was holding them so tight, like my safety net), I guess…….
I somehow managed to only scrape one knee (could have went down on all four) so I look at it, as a minor fender-bender. Life is an adventure……isn’t it……..
And you know what….a little peroxide, a little bandage and a big glass of wine, while sitting on the couch next to my 2 little co-pilots, made this adventure so worth it!
We send you love and kindness and we’d love to hear from y’all, Woof Woof.
