Pitter Patter Wednesday!

Hello from Texas y’all,

This morning I woke up to the sounds of pitter patter next to my bed. It wasn’t raining….which for me is really a good thing because that would just give me an excuse to roll over and sleep a little longer……frankly it takes less than that for me to roll over and sleep a little longer…..Hey I stayed up late watching baseball last night…..(Go Rangers!)

The sounds of the pitter patter were of course from my little co-pilot, Riley the Scottie. Riley will be having his first birthday in a few weeks. It’s so hard for me to believe that this little guy will be one year old soon.  I got Riley when he was eight weeks and ever since, my life has not been the same.  I had been wanting a puppy for quite some time and always found excuses. What will he do when I am at work, what will he do to my furniture, what will he do to my morning routine……Oh yeah, I had all kinds of excuses. Dogs are expensive, dogs create messes in your house, dogs bark………dogs this – dogs that……

Of course most of my friends and family have dogs and I was raised having all kinds of pets but,  the excuses were always there. Except……I had these two special friends, (girls, you know who you are) who never gave up on the idea of me getting a puppy. They kept telling me all the great things about having a dog……..dogs love you unconditionally, dogs never hold a grudge, dogs will warm your soul.  And you know what……..they really do. Of course some of you may be saying, what about cats. My cat does all those things too. And I believe they do!

It really doesn’t matter what type of pet you have, does it…… What matters is that you open your heart and soul to them and you make them part of your family.  Love them unconditionally, never hold a grudge and warm their souls because they will warm yours!

Okay Okay….there are moments……..Ask me if my soul was warm the day I came home and Riley had parts of the carpet in his beard, ask me if my soul was warm when Riley chewed one of my favorite high heels (and I still can’t find that buckle), ask me if my soul was warm when Riley had a little accident in the house….. (well it wasn’t that little), ask me if my soul was warm when Riley walked into the living room carrying the shower curtain between his teeth…….Okay Okay, I needed a new shower curtain anyway (how does he know).  Of course there have been days when I think…..OMG I have made a big mistake. Big mistake.

Now ask me if my soul is warm when I come home from a long hard day and he greets me with sparkles in his eyes and a grin on his face (yes that toothy grin), ask me if my soul is warm when that project at work just wasn’t good enough (darn those bosses), and all he wants to do is jump on the couch and sit in my lap,  ask me if my soul is warm when I burn my dinner (oh yeah the kind that sets off the smoke detector).  Well two out of three……That last one was on me……….Okay now I have to tell you….the smoke detector and Riley do not get along……He doesn’t bark, he doesn’t whine….he just runs into the bedroom and hides under the bed……Kinda what I’d like to do! So alright…….my cooking skills are not the best.

So as I was saying……this morning started off with the sounds of pitter patter!  And I wouldn’t change it for the world. We all need a reminder just how wonderful life can be. Big problems, small problems…..we all have them. Open your heart and soul today.  Listen for the pitter patter in your life. Make your own, share it with someone today. Hope to hear from y’all, Woof Woof.
